Industrialist lures investors to come to Iloilo

PITCHING a welcome mode for national businessmen and investors to come to Iloilo, Dr. Alfonso Uy, chairman of the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation Inc., said Iloilo is booming today.

“Come to Iloilo and be a partner of its development,” said the patriarch of the influential Uy family in Iloilo with major business interests in shipping, hotel, shopping mall, restaurant, power plant, milling and refinery and trading of cement, rice and corn.

Iloilo is on the map again, with more infrastructures making the city and province more attractive and conducive to business, said Dr. Uy during a business summit held in Makati City last week.

The business potential and lucrative investments in Iloilo are seamless augmented by a vibrant population and the presence of skilled labor force and training schools, he said, thus it is high time that Iloilo be given its due recognition as the next important business hub in the country.

The City Government, in turn, grants investment incentives as contained in the Local Investment Incentives Code, as well as facilitation of business permits and licenses from City Hall, access to financial and technical assistance programs of the government, service connections with local utilities, and provision of other services recommended by the incentives board.

Dr. Uy said the experience of the family holding Amigo Corp. in Iloilo shows the family’s belief on the potential of Iloilo and for the city to regain its lost title as the Queen City of the South. (LCP)
