SUMMERTIME, as a child, will hold a special place in my heart forever.
How can I ever forget the thrill of balancing my bike for the first time in Grade 2? Swimming lessons at the old Beach Club was extra memorable because of the snacks we would order after each session.
Having my first ballet recital at Locsin Dance Workshop gave me the jitters but it was exhilarating nonetheless; while art workshops at the then Learning Center of the Arts taught me the basics of sketching and painting.
My piano lessons were admittedly not the highlights of my summer. But, I am thankful for the many hours spent playing new pieces valuably enhancing my discipline and focus.
Back in high school while I was vacationing in Manila, I invited my cousin to enroll with me in a six-week Personality Development Course which culminated with a fashion show at the Philippine Plaza Hotel. Every time I would look at the photos, I could not help but laugh and cringe at our ‘80s fashion and make-up.
I may have been a jack (or jill) of all trades and master of none. But, boy, these were fun memories that lingered in my mind to this day!
Now, as a parent, aside from letting my kids engage in free play, I introduce them to a variety of summer workshops. I wish the same for other parents - bestowing the gift of learning to their kids.
