Ex-Ateneo footballer makes PHL U19 team

FORMER Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu star Kintaro Miyagi is suiting up for the Philippine Under-19 squad that will be seeing action in the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Championship qualifiers next month in Laos.

Miyagi failed to make the cut for the team in the 2015 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 Youth Championship in Laos, in which the Philippines beat Brunei but made the squad this time. The team is coached by Dan Padernal and Noel Marcaida.

Miyagi now plays for the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in the UAAP. He was once a member of the Little Azkals Under-13 and Under-14 team back in 2011 and 2012.

Another Cebuano player that has made the team is Hong Kong-based Jordan Blair Jarvis, a Fil-Aussie.

The Philippine team will be leaving for Laos on Sept 30. It is in Group J with Japan, Australia and host Laos.

The Philippines first assignment is powerhouse Australia on Oct. 2, followed up by Japan on Oct. 4 and then Laos on Oct. 6.
