ANGELES CITY -- Holy Angel University will launch the Philippine edition of the culinary book "Milk Pigs and Violet Gold" on Saturday, March 29 as part of its advocacy to promote intercultural understanding.
Written by Singaporean food and travel writer Bryan Koh, the book was published as a partnership between Koh and the University's Center for Kapampangan Studies (CKS). Koh collaborated with CKS consultants Alex Castro and Francis Musni in researching the book's chapter on Kapampangan cuisine.
The book's Singaporean edition is published by Koh, a cake company owner who took up Mathematics at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a masters degree holder in Management in Hospitality at the Cornell-Nanyang Institute.
"The book has two editions because it has two sets of readers with different tastes and expectations," CKS Director Robby Tantingco said.
"HAU published the Philippine edition because we participated in the writing of the Pampanga chapter and also because we want to promote appreciation for other cultures in the Philippines as reflected in regional cuisines," he said.
The Philippine edition comes in one package of three separate books representing the cuisines of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The launching on Saturday will feature culinary delights sponsored by Kapampangan culinary experts Poch Jorolan (Everybody's Café) and Lillian Borromeo (Kusina ni Atching Lillian), who are both featured in the book as resource persons for Pampanga. Other sponsors for the book launch include May Gosioco of Sta. Rita, Susie’s Cuisine of Angeles City and Apag Marangle of Bacolor.
