CLTV-36 names 1st Pasikatan grand winner

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The passionate balladeer of Tarlac was hailed the first Pasikatan grand winner on Saturday.

Renz Ruther Mendoza bested five other contenders after garnering 83.52 percent from judges in the grand finals held at Robinsons Starmills.

Lisset Laus-Velasco, arts and music enthusiast and Laus Group of Companies (LGC) deputy Chief Operations Officer, said Mendoza's voice can adapt from low to high notes.

"Ikaw ang may pinakamagandang boses ngayon dito," said Laus-Velasco, who sat as one of the judges.

The singing councilor of San Fernando and judge Harvey Quiwa lauded the consistency of Mendoza in portraying the songs he sing.

Mendoza, a native of San Jose, Tarlac City took home P1-million worth of prizes consisting of P200,000 worth of pangkabuhayan showcase from WileePao Delights, two-year scholarship from Jocson College and P500,000 cash prize.

LGC chairman and chief executive officer Levy P. Laus, together with CLTV 36 president and general manager Sonia P. Soto and deputy general manager and vice president Billy San Juan, personally announced and handed the cash prize to Mendoza who sang Ikaw Lamang as his winning piece.

Mendoza thanked the for giving the opportunity to showcase his talent in the region. He also thanked his family and supporters for all their help in boosting his morale.

He vowed to help his families and relatives with what he won and hoped that his story of success will inspire others.

Grand finalists Christian Gonzales won the Popularity Award after collecting more than 50 percent of text votes. The Boy Next Door of Baliuag, Bulacan who sang The Climb was also hailed second runner-up.

The Talented Crush ng Bayan of Concepcion, Tarlac was declared first runner-up after garnering 77.39 percent of votes. He was the only contender to showcase three talents such as singing, dancing and beatboxing.

Pampanga's bet Joanna Roman and Armie David were placed fourth and fifth placer respectively.

Judges Joebee Henson, Randy del Rosario and Cesar Pambid together with Quiwa and Laus-Velasco extended their compliments to the Top 6 contenders.
