El Shaddai leader wants Arroyo as ‘godmother’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Former President and now Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was visited by El Shaddai leader Brother Mike Velarde.

Velarde visited the lawmaker in her hospital suite at Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), according to lawyer Ferdinand Topacio.

Arroyo was requested by Velarde to be a godmother in their golden wedding anniversary on July 20. Arroyo accepted the invitation of Velarde but Topacio said "the former President is not sure if she can attend the event."

According to Topacio, the El Shaddai leader stayed with Arroyo from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"They talked and reminisced the old times," Topacio said.

"I learned that at her death bed, former First Lady Eva Macapagal asked Brother Mike to look after her daughter, President Arroyo. That's how their affinity is," he added.

Arroyo is facing plunder charges for allegedly misusing the funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Arroyo will celebrate her 67th birthday on April 5 at the VMMC after the Sandiganbayan turned down her request for a three-day birthday furlough.
