Mayor orders draft plan on city gov’t complex

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has instructed the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) to draft a plan for the Iloilo City Government Complex.

The city legal office was earlier tasked to draft a lease to own agreement with the Philippine National Railways (PNR) for the city to use the 2,385-square-meter lot adjoining Ker and Co. Ltd.

The PNR lot is facing Muelle Loney street and the city will pay a monthly rental of P10,000 for five years with an option to buy the lot at P24.4 million after five years.

Mabilog said a bigger and modern grandstand is being planned at the PNR lot.

The present Iloilo Freedom Grandstand is occupying some 600 square meter lot owned by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to expand the Sunburst Park.

The mayor said he has a development plan for the cafeterias and food stalls occupying a portion of the PNR lot and these food vendors are included in the comprehensive plan for the complex.

City legal officer Daniel Dinopol said the City Council will have to approve the purchase of the Ker lot by giving authority to Mabilog to sign the purchase agreement. [Read the related story here.]

The city will give P17.5 million or 50 percent of the purchase amount upon signing of the contract and the balance of another P17.5 million to be paid upon the transfer of the two titles to the city government.

The City Council will also approve the PNR contract by granting authority to the city mayor to sign in behalf of the City Government of the memorandum of agreement between the city and PNR.
