LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- University of the Cordilleras distributed books for the provincial schools.

UC vice president for Administration Leonarda Aguinalde said the university has turned over books to schools here for both public and private institutions.

Aguinalde said thousands of text and reference books were given to public and private school beneficiaries in Baguio, Benguet, Mountain Province and rest of the region, with more than 19,000 books donated to 32 schools in Baguio and Benguet.

The book donation drive, which aims to distribute a million books, is a joint project of UC through its Project H.E.L.E.N (health, education, livelihood, environment and nurturance) in cooperation with Children International-Philippines Inc.

Aguinalde said remote schools in Benguet, Mountain Province and Kalinga were chosen as beneficiaries to help ensure the gift of knowledge is passed on, the Baguio City National High School annexes were also given books.

Books were also donated to schools in La Union and Pangasinan provinces.

Aguinalde said the book donation drive started in December 2010 when more than 16,000 books were donated during the first ever wave or batch with 34 school beneficiaries in Baguio and Benguet.

Since 2010, the biggest volume of books donated ranging to more than 54,000 was last March 7, 2013 in Baguio City.

UC is expected to donate close to 320,000 books since 2010 if the 10th to 14th waves will be implemented within the month.
