THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is offering scholarship programs for priority Science and Technology (S&T) areas and Master’s and Doctorate degrees in engineering.
DOST-Cordillera Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat said DOST has accelerated its S&T Human Resource Development Program (ASTHRD) and the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) that provides P17,000 and P25,000 monthly stipend, on top of the payment of actual tuition fee, book and transportation allowance, and research and thesis/dissertation grant for qualified grantees.
This is in line with the goal to boost the country’s competitiveness and capability to innovate through S&T and to accelerate the production of high-level human resources needed for Research and Development in S&T.
Sicat announced the scholarship is open to all Filipino citizens who are in good health condition, not more than 45 years old at the time of application, have passed the admission requirements of the graduate program of the National Science Consortium (NSC)- member universities.
For the ASTHRD scholarship program, the priority fields of study are Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Sciences, Earth Atmospheric and Space Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Fisheries and Marines Sciences ,Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Information and Communication technology, Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Pure and applied mathematics and Physics.
The NSC – member universities to choose from are Ateneo De Manila University, Central Luzon State University, De La Salle University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), University of the Philippines Diliman, UP Los Baños, UP Manila, UP Visayas, University of Santo Tomas, and Visayas State University.
For the ERDT, consortium member universities include DLSU, Mapua Institute of Technology, ADMU, MSU-IIT, University of San Carlos, UP Los Baños and UP Diliman.
According to Sicat, DOST–CAR currently has 20 Master’s scholars and 10 doctorate scholars under the ASTHRD. For the ERDT, there are six master’s and one doctoral scholar grantees.
Sicat reiterated his invitation to all those interested to take advantage of the DOST post –graduate scholarship programs, as he stressed investing in science and technology would not only improve the country’s quality of education but it will also boost nation’s progression towards a globally competitive country.
