Benguet tourist arrivals peak

La, Trinidad, Benguet – Tourists who flock to the Mountain City has chosen the province as a destination as well.

A lot of visitors are expected to troop to the La Trinidad strawberry fields over the summer, peaking during the Holy Week as visitors want to pick fresh berries and sample strawberry products which abound the area.

The Valley has become a favorite destination for tourists who want to see where vegetables and flowers are actually grown.

Claire Prudecio, Provincial Tourism Officer, said a surge in tourism is seen during the summer season.

Itogon tops municipalities with most tourists due to its many eco-tourism activities like mountain climbing and trekking adventures.

Prudencio said treks up to the summits of both Mount Pulag and Ugo have increased participants as well as the Northface 100 which have lured foreign contingents.

Another eco-tourism mountain climbing activity, the Mt. Purgatory-Mangisi Invitation Traverse organized by the municipality of Bokod also in Benguet, placed third.

Events held in Bokod, Kapangan and Kibungan centered on sports tourism. These are trekking, mountain biking, running and various altitude sports which promote the beauty and natural terrain of the province.

Prudencio said Kibungan is the second most visited town in the province.

The Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club, the mother organization of all media clubs in the region will also bring the annual Lucky Summer Visitors to the province capital for tours.

The village of Twin Peaks traversed by the historic Kennon Road will again serve as first-ever host of the annual search for LSV, who will be given red carpet treatment during Holy Week.

The annual LSV, a project of the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC), aims to promote the people, culture and tourism spots of Baguio City and the province.

The LSV will be brought to key destinations in the province including the strawberry fields, Balatoc Mines and the BenCab Museum in Asin.

Aside from the government sector, the LSV has been getting support from its partners like Chevron, SMART, Benguet Electric Cooperative, Baguio Water District, Philippine Military Academy, Mines View barangay, BB-PICAG, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and its attached agency, Land Transportation Office, SNAP-Benguet, Hotel Supreme, SM City Baguio, Benguet State University, Benguet Corp., Chanum Foundation, Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio and Baguio Country Club, Pines Garage Van Operators Association, GMT-Interlink Security Management Corp., among others.
