Army to cooperate with DOJ probe

THE Army's 10th Infantry Division (ID) on Monday bared they are willing to cooperate with the investigation of the Department of Justice (DOJ) after its creation of a fact-finding team that would probe the attacks against lumads in Mindanao.

Lt. Alex Cabales, acting spokesperson for Army's 10th ID, said the probe to be conducted by the DOJ is a big help for all groups corcerned with the reported transgressions against the lumads particularly in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, San Fernando, Bukidnon, and Lianga, Surigao del Sur.

"This move by DOJ is a positive and good step forward. Through this investigation, we would reveal the truth behind the lumad plight," Cabales told Sun.Star Davao in a phone interview Monday afternoon.
It can be recalled that last Sept. 24, Saturday, Justice Sec. Leila De Lima formed a 16-member fact finding team through the Department Order No. 792.

The investigating team, composed of members of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and National Prosecution Service (NPS), were tasked to identify those behind the attacks and hold them responsible.

They will review and evaluate official and documents reports of the incidents gathered by government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and Indigenous People's (IPs).

Cabales said the 10th ID manifests its all-out support to the DOJ investigation to properly solve the conflicts and incidents involving the lumads.

"If there is an investigation that would be conducted, it is only fitting that the credible body of DOJ would lead it since we wanted it to be transparent as possible," Cabales said.

He, meanwhile, reiterated that the soldiers assigned in those provinces have not committed any violation or abuses.

"We are very confident that we did not commit any human rights violations," Cabales added. (KRP)
