Coast Guard tightens security for Holy Week

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has tightened security measures in all ports to ensure the safety of travelers during the observance of the Holy Week.

Zamboanga Coast Guard Station (ZCGS) commander Jomark Angue said they will deploy sea marshals as part of the tightened security

measures.

Angue, who is also the spokesman of the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao, said they expect an increase in the volume of passengers this coming Holy Week since many people will be going home for a vacation to their respective home provinces.

Angue said they will also put up help desks in the different ports to assist the passengers during their travel.

Angue said they will not allow overloading of passengers to ensure the safe travel at sea from the port departure and port of call.

Angue advised ship owners to ensure that their boat is on good condition and must have the complete equipment such as life jackets and life boats.

He said ship owners should also rehearse their crew to ensure good service to the passengers while sailing.
