THIS year, it’s high-time to spice up your style and ingenuity: bring out those tribal accents, bedazzle in hints of jewel hues, and push the boundaries in redefining what this season’s look is all about.
Stylist Clint Holton Potestas envisions a wardrobe that dabbles in such creative concepts: metallic colors, theatric accessories, turbans and architectural silhouettes—style statements not commonly associated with the season, yet express the same vibrant aesthetics.
“Tribal prints are dominant trends this year and I see a lot of Aztec-themed ensembles,” the stylist said. “However, I feel that sometimes prints can be unforgiving to most body types because they give the illusion of width.” Wanting the trend to be more accessible, Clint explained he interpreted it through turbans and use of multiple bracelets.
Accessories are by Jamie Zanoria and Simply Cebuana, which are paired with designs by Protacio. Clint said, “Protacio delivered a collection utilizing fabrics such as silk taffeta, a challenging material, (from which) he made architectural pieces. He did not veer toward the most literal way of presenting a metallic collection, which is through beadwork, and to me that is very clever.”
Without necessarily overhauling your entire closet to include these pieces, Clint added that this style can be captured by simply adding in bold accessories to your daily ensemble.
“(This) is a summary of 2014’s greatest trends: namely tribal, metallic, cropped tops, jewel tones and architectural silhouettes. Either you put them all together or pick a few hints, you decide according to your mood,” he advised. “There are no rules set—experiment, experiment, experiment!”
