CEBU City Councilor Gerardo Carillo will file a libel case against a radio block-timer for allegedly issuing a “below the belt and malicious statement” against him.
Carillo, a lawyer, said that Nanette Garong issued negative statements against him in her program at radio DyLA yesterday.
Carillo said Garong, in her program, accused him of beating his children that made him the number one violator of his proposed ordinance banning corporal punishment.
Garong also accused the councilor of being “corrupt.”
“I think it’s time for her to prove all her allegations against me in court. Dili man ni ingon nga nag-abusar ta sa atong propesyon isip usa ka lawyer, but somehow some people have to be taught a lesson,” Carillo said.
As of yesterday, the complaint-affidavit of Carillo was being prepared by his lawyers.
Carillo said Garong’s actions are politically-motivated since it’s almost election season.
Garong is known to be supporting the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK). Carillo, who will be running for congressional representative of the city’s south district, is with the rival Team Rama.
“Kaning uban nga broadcasters mo-appreciate man ta kay tagaan ta og panahon nga motubag. Naa may mga broadcaster nga tinuod mo-atake nato but they would call us and give us a chance to answer,” Carillo said.

“Pero kani one-sided man, klaro gyod kaayo sa tanan unya below the belt pa kay apilon pa atong pamilya nga walay labot. This is not in my character nga mokiha og tawo kay kahibaw ko isip abogado nga hasol kaayo ning mokiha ta. But the way it was said, it’s as if no one could stop her (She dragged my family into the issue. I don’t usually go to court because I know it’s so stressful),” he said.
Carillo said he has been criticized for the activities he sponsored in barangays because they improved his ratings.
These activities include karaoke singing, disco and zumba in different barangays using his equipment and manpower for free.
Sought for comment, Garong said she is just telling the truth.
“Kon unsay akong isulti sa radyo, mao na ang tinuod without any malice. Sometimes kini man gung tinuod sakit kaayo na, unless namakak ko then akong atubangon. Importante man gud sa katawhan nga masayod kung unsay tinuod (I’m just telling the truth. It’s important for the people to know),” she said.
Garong said she hopes Carillo is not diverting the public’s attention from the issue he is facing.
She said Carillo is accountable to the people for his acts and issues arising from these acts should not be taken as malicious.
“I challenge Gerry Carillo to tell the truth, nothing but the truth. Not the truth according to himself but the truth in the eyes of God. Gerry Carillo knows the real truth,” Garong said.
