4 road projects to boost Davao tourism

FOUR big ticket tourism road infrastructures are ongoing construction for the year 2014, the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH 11) said.

DPWH 11 information assistant Gaudencio I. Ortiz II, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said these projects are under the Department of Tourism-DPWH convergence program wherein the road projects are aimed at developing tourist destinations by making these destinations more accessible through road upgrading or constructions.

Two are in Davao Oriental, one is in Davao del Sur, and one in Davao City.

The Cogon-Kapatagan-Mainit road in Davao del Sur, has the highest allotment with around P163 million.

"The project will include road widening and upgrading," he said.

The two projects in Davao Oriental include the P140.49 million road upgrading of junction Launion to Hamiguitan from gravel to concrete and the P91.81 million road upgrading of the road leading to Pusan Point from gravel to concrete.

"The road upgrading of junction Launion to Hamiguitan was supposed to be finished last year but due to issues of the road right-of-way, the project was somehow stalled," he said.

The road project in Davao City is the P160.89 million road upgrading of the Lacson-Lamanan-Inayangan-Magkawayan road from gravel to concrete.

Ortiz said a portion of the project will be completed in May 2014. (RJL)
