Lawmaker: Blacklist contractor over delayed Edsa road reblocking

A LAWMAKER on Wednesday sought the immediate blacklisting of private contractors that have failed to meet their deadline for the rebklocking of portions of the Epifanio de los Santos (EDSA) during the Holy Week break last week.

In an statement, House committee on Metro Manila Affairs chairman Winston Castelo urged Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson to reveal the identities of these private contractors to enable the public to know them.

"These private contractors, which do not have any sense of urgency and refuse to acknowledge the public interest in their contracts with government, should be forever barred from doing business with the state," Castelo said.

Castelo said the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) earlier said private contractors, which the DPWH tapped for the reblocking or repair of Edsa, only had until Wednesday to complete their work.

"They have themselves to blame," Castelo said.

The lawmaker said the private contractors did not have the sense of urgency to complete their work, the deadline of which has been explicitly included in their contracts.

"They have it coming. They were so complacent to fail to complete their works," Castelo said.

Castelo said the DPWH should enforce the clauses where private contractors have to pay the government enormous sums for every day of delay of their contracted works.

"We have to teach them a lesson," Castelo said. (Sunnex)
