Negros, Iloilo get bulk of projects

THE provinces of Negros Occidental and Iloilo get the bulk of infrastructure projects in Western Visayas implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Western Visayas got a total of P8.79-billion worth of infrastructure projects in 2013, the DPWH said.

Negros Occidental had the biggest funded projects at P1.92 billion, including P1.704-billion funding for 397 projects in various localities in the province and P213.714-million worth of projects in the provincial capital city, Bacolod.

The province of Iloilo had the second biggest share of implemented projects at P1.55 billion, including 333 projects in provincial areas worth P1.215 billion and 33 projects in Iloilo City worth P335.67 million.

Newly appointed DPWH Regional Assistant Director Lea Delfinado reported that 1,014 projects of the total 1,463 projects implemented in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces were completed by the end of 2013.

There are 403 ongoing projects expected to be finished within the first half of 2014, while the remaining 46 projects will undergo bidding this year.

The DPWH-6 also implemented 99 projects worth P501.83 million in Capiz, 107 projects worth P380.05 million in Aklan, 151 projects worth P282.164 million in Antique, and 27 projects worth of P198.64 million in Guimaras.

DPWH-6 also implemented 63 projects worth P3.97 billion under appropriation of other national government agencies. These include farm-to-market road projects funded by the Department of Agriculture and school building projects funded by the region’s Department of Education.
