DPWH: Please bear with road works

EXTRA patience.

This is the request of Department of Public Works and Highways Baguio City District Engineer Ireneo Gallato for various road and drainage projects in the city this summer.

Foremost on his concern is the road widening and drainage project along Kennon Road which will span from Camp 8 to Camp 7.

He said the project will be affected by delays due to the rainy season further extending its rehabilitation for more than a month.

The DPWH official said what is important is the presence of the flag men and police personnel that will direct traffic in these areas while the construction is ongoing especially during rush hours.

He also asked truckers and heavy equipment vehicles to refrain from using the portion of Kennon Road affected by the road project for the moment while the construction is ongoing.

He also advised traffic enforcers to redirect travelers not to use Kennon Road and instead use Loakan Road in going to the Central Business District.

Other problems raised by the district engineer are the daily afternoon rains which will further prolong the construction process and curing period of road pavements.

The project, he stressed, is aimed at widening the portion of Kennon Road approaching the city proper and most importantly the widening of drainage canals to prevent flooding in nearby barangays.

He also added the implementation of the project has also been postponed due to high tourism arrivals during Panagbenga Festival, PMA graduation and Holy Week where the road works would cause further congestion of the national road.

“Now that wala ng major activities, the problem now is the weather dahil natatagalan ang contractor mag-implement ng activities but we will do our best to finish the project at the soonest time pati yung information dissemination sa lahat ng apektado,” he said.
