VISIONS of heaven are in the City.
In celebration of the 5th Tam-awan International Arts Festival, Ayala Museum’s “Kisame” exhibit is displayed at the Village Gallery showcasing the beauty of Bohol churches.
Kisame representing visions of heaven on earth features installations life-sized photographs of architectural ceiling paintings from 17 churches in Bohol.
“The art exhibit is a means of showcasing the artistry of the Filipinos and also the religiosity and the influence of Christianity, particularly Catholicism in the country’s culture,” Kenneth Esguerra, senior curator of the Ayala Museum said.
The exhibit runs until June 7 at the Tam- Awan Village Gallery.
Works of Raymundo Francia and Canuto Avila, two of the foremost Cebuano painters, were captured in the photo installations.
Bohol is known to have old churches, dating back to the early years of the Spanish era.
Esguerra said the exhibit was launched in 2008 in the Ayala museum as part of the National Heritage Month.
The exhibit also aims to bring awareness on conservation.
“Bohol is rich with art, we aim to bring awareness of conservation of the churches; It’s a good thing that the pictures were taken before the earthquake in 2013,” he added.
Months ago, Bohol was hit by an earthquake wreaking havoc to the Visayas and destroying the age-old churches.
Esguerra hopes the exhibit heightens appreciation and awareness to everyone who views it.
“To see the actual images, one has to strain and look up at the ceilings inside the churches. The presentation of these works in a museum setting, however, will facilitate a more intimate experience, appreciation, and study of these ecclesiastical paintings,” he closed.
