DENR: Migratory birds panalipdi

GIAWHAG sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Central Visayas (DENR-7) ang publiko nga pana­lipdan ang mga migratory bird nga anaa sud sa 1,028 ka ektarya nga luna sa Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary (OIWS) sa dak­bayan sa Lapu-Lapu ug ang ubang dapit sa tungatungang Kabisay-an.

Kagahapon, gisaulog sa DENR 7 ang World Migratory Bird Day uban sa tema “Destination flyways migratory birds and tourism” uban sa tinguha nga mapalapdan ang kahibalo sa mga tawo sa kamahinungdanon sa migratory birds sa biodiversity.

Si DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Isabelo Montejo nagkanayon angay hatagan og proteksiyon sa publiko ang migratory birds batok sa mga manakop, mamaligya ug mopatay niini.

Matod niya 97 ka mga klase sa langgam ang makita sa OIWS, 48 niini mga migratory species samtang ang uban lumad sa maong dapit. Ang OIWS giprotektahan ug gimintinar sa DENR 7.

“OIWS is the Philippines first wetland of international importance for waterfowl as it supports the largest concentration of migratory birds found so far in the country,” niingon si Montejo.

Apil sa makita sa sanctuary: ang Chinese Egret, Little Egret, Little Heron, Grey Plover, Kentish Plover, Greater Sand-Plover, Far Eastern Curlew, Eurasian Curlew, Whimbrel, Bar-tailed Godwit, Common Redshank, Common Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, Terek Sandpiper ug Grey-tailed Tattler.

Anaa sa dapit ang Ruddy Turnstone, Asian Dowithcher, Great Knot, Rufous-necked Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Gull-billed Tern, Whiskered Tern, Common Kingfisher, White-collared King­fisher, Barn Swallor, Pacific Swallor, Yellow-vented Bulbul, Golden-bellied Flyeater, Pied Fantail, Brown Shrike ug Olive-backed Sunbird.

Subra sa 70 ka mga partisipante apil na mga estudyante, mga kawani ug opisyal sa DENR, people’s organizations, pribadong indibidwal ug ubang stakeholders ang nisalmot sa kalihokan kagahapon. (SCG)
