P27-M worth of marijuana destroyed in Ilocos Sur

JOINT operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) recently destroyed marijuana plants worth over P27 million in Ilocos Sur, an official said Wednesday.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. said that agents of PDEA-Ilocos Region, in collaboration with elements of Cervantes Police Station, Ilocos Sur Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG) and Ilocos Sur Provincial Public Safety Company (ISPPSC), discovered the fully-grown marijuana plants in Dinwende West, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, covering a total of 8,000 square meters of land area.

The marijuana eradication operation is under case operation plan code name: "Green Gold 2".

No cultivator, however, was arrested in the operation last May 9, Cacdac said.

The operating teams were able to seize 138,000 pieces of fully-grown marijuana plants worth P27,600,000 based on the value set by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), he added.

Cacdac commended the operatives of PDEA and the PNP for their constant cooperation which led to the successful eradication of the illegal hemp and for collaborative efforts to prevent the movement of marijuana from the north going to other regions. (SDR/Sunnex)
