Frisbee MVP is Digos pride

SWEEPING three titles in the Daba-Dabalka-Upat Frisbee National Competition, Jean Kyrrah Tuvilla aims to reap more honors in the National Frisbee Competition slated May 30 and 31 in Tagum City.

The 31-year-old Kyrrah, who hails from Digos City, clinched the most valuable player and most assist awards as well as making it into the elite Mythical Seven of the recently-concluded nationals.

The frisbee ace used to be a runner, taekwondo player and a mountaineer before she became a frisbee player.

Khyrrah said that shifting to frisbee was never a part of her plan but the unexpected career shift gave her numerous recognitions, making her more eager to play the sport well.

“Gikankoug mountaineering October 2009 as member saDigos Adams Mountaineers. Gi-invite mi na mag frisbeedidtosaDawis, Digos City for fun games lang. Walagyudko experience sa Frisbee pero sa pagdula nakitaan ko ug potensyal ni Nelson Cañedo of Mulatto Davao kay taas daw ko ug inambakan ug naa ko physical strength. Didtonagsugodakong career safrisbee. (We were just invited to play frisbee for fun in Dawis, Digos City and during the game, Nelson Cañedo of Mulatto saw a potential in me since I jumped high and had physical strength so that's how my frisbee career started)," she said.

In just a span of almost five years, Khyrrah earned her name in the sport with her hard work and efforts.

Khyrrah was hailed MVP in the Manila Spirits International Frisbee tournament on 2010, in 2011 Singapore Open International Frisbee, 2012 Boracay Open, 2013 Boracay Open and 2014 Boracay Open. She also received the Most Assist award during the 2011 Manila Spirits International and was named into the Mythical Seven of the Shanghai Open and Hong Kong Frisbee events in 2013.

She said in the vernacular, "I learned to cope playing with a team in frisbee as I was used to competing alone. This sport is not purely all strength, analysis is very important to win a game.”

She also said frisbee has no age limit, saying that as long as one plays with his or her heart, he or she can be a frisbee player. She has been gaining a lot of friends while joining frisbee competitions, too.

Khyrrah along with team Mulatto Davao will also show their wares in the International Frisbee Tournament in Malaysia in July.

Khyrrah, who looks up to actor and frisbee player Derek Ramsay and Christian Guerrero of Boracay Dragons All-Stars, thanked Mulatto’s Daisy Jane Cimafranca and Joie Monterola for their support and trust.
