THE University of San Carlos gave due recognition to its student-athletes in simple recognition rites last Saturday evening at the school’s multi-purpose gym.
University athletic director Fr. Adriano Ocariza, SVD, led the distribution of certificates and cash incentives to its athletes, who brought honors to the school during the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), the Regional and National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) meets and other national tournaments.
The biggest winners in this year’s awarding rites were the university swimmers who delivered the overall championship in the Cesafi meet as well as 26 gold medals during
the National Prisaa meet held in Tagum City in Davao del Norte last April.
The USC swimming team which was coached by Tito Bonilla and Ronald Manlosa gathered a total of 32 golds and 14 silver medals during the Cesafi competition, was the biggest contributor to the Region 7 Prisaa during the national meet.
“Just imagine if our team events will top the Cesafi events. I just can’t imagine how many buses we will be sending to the regional Prisaa meet which will be hosted by Dumaguete City and the national meet which will be in Iloilo City next year,” Fr. Ocariza said after the distributions of the certificates of recognition and cash award to the achievers.
Swimmer Loren Dale Echavez was among the the top medal producer s for USC.
Fr. Ocariza was also thankful for the contributions given to the Warriors biggest supporters Bogo City mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr., Perry Lim and coach Julian Macoy for their valuable contributions to the growth of the Warriors’ athletics program, especially its basketball program.
The basketball team, USC Warriors was also rewarded for placing third in the Cesafi tournament.
Aside from the swimmers and basketball players, Fr. Ocariza also handed cash awards to its tertiary chess team, lawn tennis players, taekwondo jins, badminton players among others.
