Baguio PWDs hit mark in PHILSPADA

BAGUIO athletes with disabilities hit their mark to fulfill an earlier promise by taking home medals in the archery event of the recently concluded 2014 Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled– National Games.

7th Association of Southeast Asian Nations ParaGames bronze medalist Agustina Bantiloc led the assault, taking home the gold medal in the recurve open division.

The Paragamer, together with fellow Asean Paragamer Allan Campos and Giovanni Ola, dominated the competition as the two bagged the silver and bronze awards, respectively.

Coach John Hongitan said he already expected the Baguio-based PWD archers to hold their own against the competition.

He added his confidence to the PWD representatives doubled as the city took centerstage in the national competition.

According to Hongitan, he will continue to develop and encourage more PWDs to take up the sport.

He added if taken seriously, the Philippines might just get a better chance of improving in the medal standings of the Asean ParaGames.

Earlier, Campos also took three gold medals in athletics topping the men’s shotput (6kg category), discus throw (1.75kg category), and javeline contest, as Bantiloc snatched third honors in the ten pin bowling competition.

Avegail Ann Agruta also snatched two gold mints in high jump with 1.00 meter record and in long jump competition with 1.75 meters.

Jaime Mangiga added one more gold medal in the men’s 5kg shotput event with his 8.10 meters best, while Rufino Humilan caught one bronze medal from the men’s javelin throw with a 16.95 meters throw. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
