HUNGDUAN, Ifugao -- The Municipal Sports Promotion and Development Council was recently created to ensure the general health and safety of its citizenry through the promotion and development of meaningful sports and recreation.
Mayor Hilario Bumangabang said the council was created pursuant to Republic Act 6847 that provides for the promotion and establishment of a MSPDC which shall initiate, conduct and coordinate sports activities.
The MSPDC is chaired by the municipal mayor with the vice mayor as vice-chairperson while members are composed of the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator, Municipal Treasurer, School District Supervisor, Hungduan National High School Sports Coordinator, Municipal Sports Coordinator, elementary school principals or Teachers-in-Charge, all the barangay captains, Sanguniang Bayan Chair on Sports Women’s Federation president and sports organization’s representative.
The MSPDC shall conduct local sports summits in consultation with other public and private entities to identify and prioritize sports programs and activities in their respective localities and monitor, review and validate their programs.
It shall also oversee and ensure the implementation of the physical fitness and sports program, assist in the identification, recruitment and training of gifted and talented athletes from their areas, submit a quarterly report to the Provincial Sports Council, meet at least once every three months to formulate a short, medium and long term plan for the sports sector including a year-round calendar of sports activities and perform other functions necessary for the effective implementation of the sports plan.
Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Bayan chaired by Vice Mayor Juliet Ananayo, is requesting the provincial government for the allocation of P700,000 for two vital infrastructures in the area.
Requested are funding for the construction of a multi-purpose building to be utilized by the Hungduan Municipal Hospital located in Barangay Hapao and the rehabilitation of the Latbang Communal Irrigation System in Barangay Maggok. Daniel Codamon
