‪Bilog eyes sports committee

NEWLY installed Baguio Vice Mayor Edison Bilog wants to head the Committee on Youth Welfare and Sports Development in order to address problems regarding sports development in the city.

The former chairperson of Committee on Human Rights, Justice Public Protection and Safety, Peace and Order feels the need to speak up for the sportsmen inside the City Council.

“The sports committee really needs to be filled up, unless there will be someone to occupy the position who knows who can really address problems inside the city hall,” Bilog said.

Bilog earlier said he is interested in taking over the position left by former councilor and SK chairman Karmin Dinney Yangot.

The postponement of the Sanguniang Kabataan elections in 2013 left no holdover in the committee to any city official.

The vice mayor said he is very much qualified for the position since he is the youngest among the members of the city council.

He added the late Vice Mayor Daniel Fariñas was the acting head of the sports committee and it will be just right for him to assume the committee leadership.

“Sayang naman kung walang mag-hehead ng sports and youth committee, para rin naman sa benefit ng mga kabataan and sportsmen ang target nating mga programs,” Bilog said.

Among the programs Bilog has in mind are unifying sports leagues and its leaders in the city, and the passing of proposed law in increasing the incentives given to the city athletes and their coaches.

Bilog added he also plans to commit himself in improving sports facilities here in the city.
