Navarro wins road race in Sugbo Seawall

ELMER Navarro pushed strong on his pedal right from the get go and did not look back to snatch the category A title of the road bike race of the 1st Sugbo Seawall Side Bicycle Oval Race yesterday at the South Road Properties.

Navarro topped the 28-kilometer road bike race after finishing in 45 minutes 56 seconds. He was followed by Ramonito Espinosa, who crossed the finish line in 47:01 to take second place, while Jun Pagnanawon clocked 47:03 to finish third.

“The race route was nice. I really prepared for this race. I broke away in the sixth lap. Some riders caught up with me in the seventh lap so I had to go all out in the last three laps. I managed to build a safe lead and I never let go of it,” Navarro told Sun.Star Cebu in Cebuano yesterday.

In the Category B, Cheche Barcenal won with a time of 56:59. He held a milliseconds lead over second placer Arjay Beato. Michael Mier came in third in 57:04.

The top three in Category C were Tata Ty (1:16:48), Joseph Rex Gonzales (1:16:48) and Roger Lastimoso (1:17:48).

The golden category top three winners were Leo Latore (1:24:06), Bonifacio Sumalinog (1:25:26) and Cipriano Alburo (1:25:50). The 14 years old-below top riders were Ralph Eduard So (46:28.08), Jezreel Tan (46:28:08) and Neil Kilsi Manabat (46:50.07). Aaliyah Mataragnon (48:20.05) came in fourth.

Aside from cash prizes given to the top riders, there was also a raffle draw which gave valuable items to the lucky winners.

According to Sugbo Bikers Vice President Fernando Andot Sabal “the first event of Sugbo Bikers as a whole was successful.
