1,000 cops deployed as classes start

SOME 1,000 police personnel of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will be deployed today to ensure security within the city as school year 2014-2015 begins.

In a phone interview Sunday, DCPO director Sr. Supt. Vicente D. Danao Jr. said the police personnel will be deployed in different areas in the city particularly in the downtown area.

Earlier, Danao announced in last week's Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao that they will try to cover every school in the city.

"Uunahin natin yung mga malalaki na eskwelahan kung saan marami ang estudyante," he said, adding that they will be deploying at least two personnel per school.

Other areas they will be deploying personnel in are: all entry/exit points in the city, malls, and other crowded areas.

Danao said they will be maximizing their available personnel to ensure the safety of the Dabawenyos today.

Aside from deploying personnel, they wiil also be putiing up police assistance desks to maintain peace and order and to assist Dabawenyos.

Police also ensured the smooth flow of traffic with the support of the Traffic Management Center, Public Safety Command Center, Mobile Patrol Group, and the Technical Support Platoon, including civilian volunteers from different barangays.

Also in a separate interview yesterday, Task Force Davao commander Col. Casiano Monilla said they will be deploying seven motorcycle pairs to roam around the city.

The Department of Education earlier announced the opening of classes throughout the country for school year 2014-2015 in public elementary and secondary school is today.
