UV, USC bag crowns in Goodwill Games

THE University of the Visayas (UV) and University of San Carlos (USC) snagged the titles in the recently concluded Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) VisMin Goodwill Games.

UV edged out Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), 50-48, to grab the Under-15 crown.

UV led most of the game but SHS-AdC kept it close until the final buzzer. With 46 seconds left in regulation, John Chen sank in a three-pointer to cut UV’s lead to two, 50-48.

After back-to-back turnovers from both teams, Jed Colina had a chance to tie the match at the free throw line with 3.4 seconds remaining. However, he missed both his free throws.

Denzel Sabroso led UV with 12 points, while Chen was SHS-AdC’s top scorer with 14.

USC Green, on the other hand, easily beat UV for the Under-12 crown, 54-36.

Brandon Largo spearheaded USC Green’s offense with 13 points, while Tracy Dadang and Justine Atilano had 10 points each.
