DavSur set to draft tourism code

THE Provincial Government of Davao del Sur is set to start the formulation of its Tourism Code this year.

Boardmember Jason John A. Joyce, who guested in Tuesday's Davao Business Forum at Dermpath at SM City Davao, said they are looking at the tourism codes of Davao City, Palawan, and other provinces in Davao Region as basis for drafting of the code.

He said they want to see what provisions in these codes are applicable to Davao del Sur that they can adopt.

"The tourism code we will be formulating will be the first for the province," said Joyce, who is also the chair of the committee on tourism.

He said some of the provisions they are considering to adopt will be more on the protection of the environment.

"Most of our tourist sites are still untouched and we want to protect it," Joyce said.

He also said the Tourism Code will also have provisions relating to revenues like environmental fees.

Joyce said they are expecting the proposed code to be finished and approved by the provincial board this year.

Joyce said thw code will be one of the major steps they are undertaking to develop the province's tourism industry. He also said Davao Occidental will also be adopting the Tourism Code once they carve out from Davao del Sur.
