Masons reach out to indigent students

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Some 100 indigent students of Nuestra Señora del Pilar Integrated High School on Tuesday received school supplies during their second day of school as part of the Pampanga Masonic Lodge 48's Lodge charity project.

The beneficiaries were given notebooks, pencils, paper and coloring materials, according to Most Worshipful Master Nicanor Targa.

"The chosen students are those who belong to the poorest of the poor, ranging from first to sixth grades. This is the initial project of Masons for Brigada Eskwela," Targa said.

He added that the gift giving is part of their "character building" and helping others as part of the masonry.

"Tinutulangan natin yung mga mas nangangailangan, because these children come from public schools, who need help the most," he said.

Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Integrated School Principal Lorna Aquino, for her part, said that the beneficiaries were carefully selected through a process.

"Meron kaming kasama sa 4Ps, automatically included na sila sa poorest of the poor. Meron na kaming mga list na kaagad sa barangay, sa interview sa mga bata, sa mga magulang. Nakuha naming yung status dahil rin sa home visitation," she said. (Ashley Jesther D. Dela Peña)
