Late enrollment ends

THE Department of Education (DepEd)-Baguio City Division Office said late enrollees in public elementary and high schools will be entertained until Friday, June 6, only.

"Meron pa tayong hanggang Friday na pwedeng magenroll sa mga highschool at elementary school provided kaya pang i-accomodate," DepEd Baguio City Division superintendent Francis Bringas said earlier.

He clarified they had to set the deadline because records of the total number of enrollment must be submitted to the DepEd central office within the second week of June.

Bringas shared it was expected there will be late enrollees both in elementary and high school as it was already the practice of many for the past school years.

Although he admitted strictly implementing a “no late admission” policy may help address the issue, he stressed DepEd's priority is still to accommodate students in schools instead of depriving them the right to study just because they were late in the enrollment.

He suggested parents who still have not enrolled their children to have them admitted already before they miss any more lessons in class and before schools get full packed with students.

He explained in case a school can no longer hold the capacity of students, late students may just be referred to enroll to other schools to avoid overpopulation which can lead to lack of facilities, equipment and teachers.

The division superintendent called parents to give more time and set their children's enlistment in schools as a priority for the following schools years to prevent the same problem.

"Kung mas responsable lang sana yung mga ibang parents, siguro hindi tayo magkakaproblema diyan," he ended.
