A COUNCIL member of Barangay Kumaliskis in Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental was injured after she was shot by unidentified assailants Wednesday evening.
Police identified the victim as Teresita Torreno, 53.
Police Officer 3 Jiji Buen, case investigator of Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, said Torreno was wounded on the back when three to five assailants using a .45 caliber pistol fired at her.
Investigation showed that around 8 p.m, the victim was on board a multi-cab driven by Juanito Pedrosa, former chairman of Barangay Kumaliskis.
When they reached the barangay, unidentified suspects suddenly fired at them.
Buen said Torreno was rushed to the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod and she is now in stable condition.
Police recovered from the scene of the crime three shells of .45 caliber pistol.
The police believe the suspects were guns-for-hire.
Buen said they are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive and identities of the suspects.
