Guagua adopts iTax system

GUAGUA -- This town is now the 10th local government unit in Pampanga to adopt the iTax system of the Provincial Government.

Capitol's iTax is an automated system that aims to transform current levy collection from a slow manual process to an efficient, transparent, and scheme, which will make Real Property Tax or RPT payments easier and beneficial to Kapampangans.

Governor Lilia Pineda has been encouraging local officials adopt the iTax, stressing its importance, which will make the province less dependent on internal revenue allotment.

"For how many years, our revenue collection was pegged at P24 million. However, because of our intensified efforts, our collection reached as high as P1.3 billion. With this, I am encouraging our local officials down to the barangay level to work hand-in-hand in encouraging taxpayers to pay the right amount of taxes on time to sustain the collection," the governor said, adding the life and vibrancy of a province depends not solely on investors but also through revenues particularly RPT.

For his part, Guagua Mayor Dante Torres expressed gratitude to the provincial government for the program that he said would benefit his constituents.

"This system will greatly enhance our collections. Also, damages due to fire and water will be eliminated. The bureaucratic process using the time can drastically reduce the minutes to process the whole set up, including report generation. So really, it will improve services and then the collection efficiency will be better as compared to the manual system," Torres said.

He stressed that iTax is an effective way to eliminate corruption since tax collectors cannot just "manipulate" records.

"In that particular system, there are no more discounts so we can ensure high revenues which can translate into more projects within our town. More projects and programs will translate into growth and development. And development will highly motivate people's participation in government advocacies," Torres said. (Marionne I.
