CCTVs, 4 new detention facilities at City Jail

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Davao is set to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and inaugurate four additional detention facilities at the Davao City Jail in Ma-a.

BJMP-Davao Director Linda Mingoa told reporters during the Kapihan sa Philippine Information Agency (PIA) that the awarding of the eight CCTV cameras came after Davao City Jail Warden Simeon Soledad Dolojo made a request to the 17th City Council last May 27.

"Timely din ang pag-invite ng City Council sa representative namin from the Davao City Jail nung dini-discuss nila ang pag-address ng issue on CCTVs. Agad-agad pong na-approve ng City Council ang pagdo-donate ng ilang units ng CCTV cameras at nasa Davao City Jail na for installation," Mingoa said.

She also said the new CCTVs will replace the old ones yet their engineers are still determining whether the old units could be calibrated and donated to other district jails in the region.

BJMP-Davao Assistant Director Hilbert Flor, who was present in the same press conference, said that other than the CCTV units, they have also received a TV monitor donated by GMA-Davao.

The four additional detention facilities, meanwhile, were donated by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

"Malaking tulong po ito ng ating mahal na mayor. Idagdag ko na lang rin na ang ating female dormitory ay isa sa ating mga recipients nito na nadagdagan po ng facility na tinatawag natin na inter-faith facility. Gagamitin po for various activities especially for prayers and religious activities," Mingoa said.

The BJMP-Davao director, however, did not reveal the exact day on when these facilities will be officially used, as she said they are finding the right time to have the facilities inaugurated and blessed.
