Bizman tagged in lawyer's slay surfaces

A BUSINESSMAN suspected by the police for possible involvement in the murder of a young lawyer last week appeared at the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Thursday afternoon with a lawyer in tow.

Francis Gerald Ang, a member of a rich clan in Kidapawan City, appeared before the office of DCPO Director Vicente Danao.

Ang was seen wearing a hooded jacket and sunglasses, and had not given any statement to the media during his appearance. Ang was accompanied by his family and a lawyer.

Ang reportedly admitted to the authorities that he was in Davao City last May 30 as he was buying some goods for his business in Kidapawan. But Ang said that he readily went back to Kidapawan City on that same day.

Ang's name was dragged into the investigation on the murder of 31-year-old lawyer Emmanuel Ledesma Acuña Jr. after an eyewitness told the police that a man wearing a white shirt was seen running after Acuña while firing a gun at the victim. The witness said the shooter then rode a black pick-up and sped off after the shooting.

Acuña Jr. was shot dead after sending off his girlfriend at the parking area of a bank in Lanang Friday evening. The victim sustained wound in his head and died at the hospital last Sunday.

The victim's girlfriend, Joan, also admitted that Ang, who was her boyfriend for 13 years, has a black pickup vehicle. It was learned that Ang and Joan broke up July 2013 and a month after the breakup, Acuña started a relationship with Joan.

Danao, meanwhile, told the media that despite Ang's denial on his involvement on Acuña's murder, they will still continue their investigation on the love-triangle angle. They are, however, not discounting the possibility that the killing was job-related considering that the victim had worked with the Public Attorney's Office in Davao Oriental for few years before going into private practice.
