Lightning kills 2 in Negros

TWO residents of Negros Occidental were killed by lighting in separate incidents Thursday and Friday afternoon.

In Murcia town, farmer Crisanto Rivera, 26, was hit at around 1 p.m. Friday while he was plowing a sugarcane field under the rain at Hacienda San Isidro, Barangay Lopez Jaena, a police report said.

His family said the victim suffered burns on the different parts of his body.

A dog believed to have also been hit by the lightning was found dead beside the farmer.

The carabao of the farmer was reported missing as of press time.

On Thursday afternoon, 32-year-old Rex Vasquez was hit by a lighting inside his house at Hacienda Tonangan, Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City.

Chief Inspector Joeresty Coronica, chief of Talisay City Police Station, said they received a report about the incident at 12:10 p.m. Friday.

He said the victim was brought to Talisay City Health Center where he died.

The victim was found unconscious by his cousin and neighbors and they believe he was hit by lightning, Coronica said.

He said the family of the victim requested for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death because there were no burns or wounds on his body.

Even the attending physician wondered why there were no signs of burns in the victim’s body to prove that he was hit by lightning, the police chief said. (With reports from TDE)
