Palace to Cam: Don’t use CA to attack Cabinet personally

MALACANANG on Saturday said that oppositors of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima should not use the Commission on Appointments' (CA) hearing as a venue to grind the official personally.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte made the statement following threat by Sandra Cam, president of the Whistleblowers Association of the Philippines, that she would show to the public alleged sex videos of De Lima if she would be confirmed by the CA.

"Kung hindi po natin makuha yung ating gusto ay siguro huwag po nating gawing venue yung Commission on Appointments para ituloy pa kung whatever acts it is that you have to grind personally against Secretary de Lima," she said over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan.

De Lima will again face the CA on Wednesday for the continuation of the hearing on her confirmation as Justice Secretary.

Valte refused to give further comment on Cam's threat against De Lima.

"It's prudent not to respond to threats like this kasi ang pinag-uusapan po natin 'yung kapasidad nung appointee ng Pangulo na magampanan 'yung mga tungkulin, lalo in the case of Secretary De Lima, 'yung tungkulin niya bilang Justice secretary," she said.

In last Wednesday's CA hearing, Cam already expressed opposition on De Lima's appointment. She even accused the DOJ chief of having illicit affairs with different men. (SDR/Sunnex)
