BARANGAY Ma-a booked a semi-finals ticket after beating Lasang, 58-53, in the Tanduay Light 5 on 5 Paliga basketball tournament battle of the champions held at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center yesterday.

The Jigger Bayron-coached Ma-a leaned on Michael Walingan who drilled in 13 points to lead scoring as teammates AndrenGuibernas and MengDistancia scored identical nine points.

Elmer Solomon and JC Cabrera, for their part, made 10 points apiece for the team mentored by Rey Joven.

In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, Tanduay Distillers Inc. marketing officer Kim Daniel Te said that they achieved their target of gathering barangay residents of Davao City for a good cause.

"Na-achieve naminangaming goal napagsamahinlahatangmgaresidentesa barangay to play basketball. Maramikasisaatinnakahitnasaiisang barangay lang eh hindi pa natinkilala kung sinobaangmgakapit-bahaynatin," Te said.

He said, "Nabigyannaminngmagandangrelasyonangmgaresidentesa barangay through the help of the barangay officials nasumuporta along the way."

He added that Tanduay will continue to conduct sports activities for the Filipino community, "Hopefully we can continue this event next year paramasmarami pang makasali at mag enjoy."

Knockout games were being played as of presstime in the Samahang Basketbolistang Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned cagefest.
