‪Bangued, Abra – A livelihood assistance benefitting 125 residents of Tubo municipality under the national government's 2014 Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) was launched in Bangued, Abra on June 4 by the Department of Trade and Industry-CAR regional and provincial office.

In a program conducted at DTI-Abra Provincial Office, Provincial Director Arell Bañez presented the overview of the GPB program as well as the projects identified by the civil society of the Tubo such as Loomweaving, Ginger Tea Processing and Herbal Shampoo Processing. The GPB program addresses the poverty problem as it generates jobs and creates sustainable enterprises in the locality.

Regional Director Myrna Pablo of DTI-CAR expressed her appreciation of the identified projects especially on the Ginger Tea and Herbal Shampoo as these are unique in the Cordillera Administrative Region. She said the DTI support will not end here but will continue up to the marketing and promotion of the products. Also, the RD requested the recipients for the optimum utilization of the funds.

Abra Vice Governor Rosario “Chari” Bersamin also committed the support of the Provincial Government of Abra to the project as it benefits the residents of Tubo.

Mayor Gilbert Ballangan of Tubo, witnessed the turnover rites with Vice Governor Bersamin, RD Pablo and PD Bañez handing over the check amounting to P960,000.

Of the said amount, the Mong-O Loomweavers Association will receive P640,000 for the fabrication of looms, basic tailoring and embroidery and entrepreneurship development training including product marketing and promotion.

The LGU of Tubo implements the skills development, product development, packaging and testing and market promotion for the ginger tea processing amounting to P150,000. The amount of P170,000 will go to the Federation of Rural Improvement Club of Tubo for their herbal shampoo project which also requires the same skills training, packaging, labelling and promotion.

Ballangan expressed appreciation for the funds and committed for the proper implementation of the projects. (Art Tibaldo)
