THE Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) will reroute vehicles starting today as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 begins a drainage project on A.S. Fortuna St.
The road from the corner of A.S. Fortuna and M.C. Briones to the corner of A.S. Fortuna and A. del Rosario will be closed anytime today.
All vehicles traveling along B.B. Cabahug from A.C. Cortes will have to turn left to
F.B. Cabahug and turn right to F. Rosal.
Vehicles taking A.S. Fortuna from Banilad to Mandaue City proper will have to turn left to M.C. Briones, turn right to L. Jayme St., turn right again to B.B. Cabahug and turn left to F.B. Cabahug.
Rep. Gabriel Luis Quisumbing (Cebu, sixth district) has called on the DPWH 7 to speed up road and drainage projects, which have caused inconvenience to motorists, commuters and business establishments.
He met with District Engr. Suzette Nwanaka of the DPWH 7 Sixth District Engineering Office last week to discuss the progress of the road projects.
“We requested that the road works be implemented round-the-clock and even on weekends, to assure the smooth completion of these road projects and to address the problems of traffic and flooding immediately,” Quisumbing said in a statement.
The drainage project on A.S. Fortuna, for which the DPWH 7 is spending P83.7 million, will be undertaken amid five other major road projects in Mandaue.
A.S. Fortuna, Plaridel, Hernan Cortes, M.L. Quezon and the Ouano Ave. are undergoing road rehabilitation. The DPWH is also rehabilitating the Maguikay flyover, requiring the closure of the road below the structure at night.
The P.B. Obial Construction is undertaking the drainage project in three phases. The first phase involves the stretch of road from the corner of A.S. Fortuna and M.C. Briones to the corner of A.S. Fortuna and A. del Rosario.
The project, which is being implemented in time for the start of the rainy season, is expected to be completed within 300 days.
The project involves installing box culverts along the middle of the road.
A.S. Fortuna is one of Mandaue’s busiest and most heavily flooded streets in Mandaue.
