Anti-smoking caravan in Negros set June 16

A NEGROS-WIDE caravan to advocate on 100% Smoke-Free Environment in Negros Occidental will be led by the Provincial Health Office and the Bacolod City Health Office next Monday, June 16.

The caravan is a program of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 to increase awareness on the harmful effects of smoking and second-hand smoking.

Through this caravan, the DOH also aims to create awareness on the Health Warning Graphics and Sponge Campaign Ad of the government, and to encourage policy makers to pass ordinances on Smoke-Free Environments.

Those from the north will commence from Victorias (Victorias Public Plaza), E.B. Magalona (Crossing), Silay City (Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital of TLJPH) at 7 a.m. Other LGUs/organizations from San Carlos City down will meet at Victorias City at 7 a.m.

At exactly 8 a.m. all participating groups will start the caravan proper to be headed by a traffic police and drum beaters from Victorias to TLJPH in Silay at 8:45 a.m.

Those from the south will commence from Bago City Hall at 6:30 a.m., to Brgy Hall Sum-ag at 7:30 a.m., to Replica of Bacolod Government Center (BGC) along Araneta St., Bacolod Public Plaza, passing CLMMRH, then to the right side of PNB Building Capitol Lagoon at 8 a.m.

Other LGUs/ organizations from Hinobaan down will assemble at Bago City Hall at 6:30 a.m. A traffic police will lead the drive to be followed by the drum beaters.

All participating groups from the south and within Bacolod area will meet at the Capitol Lagoon at 7:30 am.

Northern and southern areas will converge at the New Extension Building of the TLJPH in Silay City at 8:45 a.m.

The program will start at 9 a.m. that will be graced by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella, and Silay Mayor Jose Montelibano.
