CDC okays Banago port zone delineation

THE Bacolod City Development Council (CDC) passed a resolution approving the request for endorsement of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for a zone delineation of the port of Banago.

CDC vice chairman Frank Carbon said this means the City Government is giving the area to the PPA to develop thus any improvement that will be introduced in the area will need the clearance of the PPA.

“We are giving PPA the authority over the area. To delineate means putting an imaginary line that the area belongs to PPA,” he said.

Carbon said the City of Bacolod or any other government entity cannot introduce anything, any improvement or whatsoever, unless it has conformity of the PPA and this will pass through the President who will sign an Executive Order.

It is PPA that has to develop the area, meaning it is designated for port development, he added.

Carbon said the area covers about 21 hectares and almost 90 to 95 percent is composed of water going to the shore and only a little portion is land which is government land.

There is a finger port in Banago going to the sea and the left and right sides of the port have been designated for port development.

It will be another infrastructure for Bacolod and all infrastructures introduced in Bacolod is very good for the city, Carbon said.

Meanwhile, Enrique Fuentebaja, PPA Bacolod manager, said one project up for approval is the repair of the dilapidated third lane of the access road located at the upper part of the causeway.

This will serve as the parking area of roll-on, roll-off vehicles later, he said.

Fuentebaja said they have lined up other improvements that will be implemented as soon as the PPA head office receives the port zone delineation endorsement of the city.

As to the informal settlers who will be affected by the development in the area, Fuentebaja said he will forward the issue to the PPA head office for instruction so they can discuss the matter with the city government. (CNC)
