Summit encourages barangay participation

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The city tourism office here together with other City Government officials held a barangay tourism summit at the Heroes Hall on Monday.

The barangay tourism summit aims to activate the tourism barangay council within the city, recognizing their roles when it comes to tourism ideas that can help in the development of the tourism industry.

City Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan-Gonzales said the City Government is strengthening barangay participation and regular tourism activities like the celebration of Independence Day and the Giant Lantern Festival.

"We are recognizing the role of the barangays in terms of tourism development as part of the agenda of Mayor Edwin Santiago," Pangilinan said.

Added to that, Pangilinan said that with the help of all barangays, they can further enhance the yearly calendar of events of San Fernando.

Pangilinan said the participation of all barangays are really important especially when it comes to representation in events like the Mutya ning San Fernando.

The barangay tourism summit is part of the program in enhancing the culture and heritage places in the city and use tourism as a tool for economic development. (Marionne I. Cayanan)
