Man charged with homicide

A MAN is facing homicide charges before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) after he was accused of killing the live-in partner of his cousin at Amparo Village in Lasang, Davao City on March 11.

Charged for homicide is Boyet Antoque who was accused of shooting down Chito Cañamo at his residence. Prosecutor Marte Melchor Velasco of the Davao City Prosecution Office found probable cause to charge Antoque based on the complaint of the victim's mother Iluminada.

Iluminada, in her affidavit, said she was informed of the killing of her son by her niece Elizabeth Nadela who discovered the cadaver of the victim. Cherry Cabata, the live-in partner of the victim and the cousin of the suspect, revealed that he was informed by Chito through text messages that Antoque went to his house asking for help. Cabata then told the victim to prepare food for the suspect and Chito replied that he will be reheating food so he and the suspect could eat together. It was the last text message Cabata received from his live-in partner before she found out about his killing.

Nadela, meanwhile, was among the first who responded to the crime scene and she saw the the victim who was still clutching his cellphone. She also found that there was food being heated on the gas stove which coincided with the text message exchange between the victim and his live-in partner thus, Antoque was accused of the crime.

Police Officer 1 (PO1) Marvin Tabigue of Bunawan police also discovered that the motorcycle of the victim was also stolen and it may have been used by the suspect as his getaway vehicle. He then told the complainant to include a carnapping complaint against Antoque.

Velasco, however, cited in his two-page resolution that there was no evidence that the respondent should also be charged for carnapping as the police officer and the complainant were not able to provide the specifications of the stolen motorcycle.

Police are still hunting down Antoque while the case is still with the RTC Office of the Clerk of Court. It was raffled off to a court branch as of Thursday, July 31.
