PWDs score 12 gold in PhilSpada Nationals

BAGUIO athletes with disabilities staged another impressive outing as they brought home 12 gold, seven silver, and one bronze medal from 2014 Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled– National Games recently.

Jaime Mangiga led the Summer Capital with his five gold medals topping the wheelchair men’s shotput with 8.10 meter record (5kg category), discus throw; 27.85 meters(1kg category), and javelin 31.16 meters.

Mangiga caught two more medals in the men’s singles bowling competition and another in the doubles after teaming up with Francisco Ednaco.

Meanwhile Allan Campos, who competed in the lower torso disability division, also stood under the limelight with his three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal haul.

Campos bannered the city in athletics after topping the men’s shotput (6kg category), discus throw (1.75kg category), and javelin (22.59) contest.

The former policeman also bagged second honors in the archery event including a third place finish in the men’s singles badminton event.

Rufino Humilan and Daniel Padilan generated one gold and one silver each in the powerlifting event and one silver apiece from the discus throw contest.

Dante Sagyaman and Romeo Tayawa clinched second place for a silver medal in chess and powerlifting respectively, while Giovanni Ola hit one bronze medal in archery.

In the distaff side, Avegail Ann Agruta snatched two gold mints in high jump with 1.00 meter record and in long jump competition with 1.75 meters.

7th Association of Southeast Asian Nations ParaGames bronze medalist Agustina Bantiloc hit a gold medal in the archery recurve open division and one bronze medal from the women’s wheelchair bowling contest.

Baguio salvaged a second placed spot in the wheelchair basketball contest played by Mangiga, Tayawa, Melchor Bantiloc, Greg Payat Jr., Rodel Damoga, Joe Antonen, and Isidro Luis.

All medallists from the national competition will be entitled to receive cash incentives from the city.
