San Fernando mulls barangay clustering

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- City officials here are proposing to cluster barangays as one of the solutions to help them promote their products.

This was disclosed during Tuesday's Barangay Tourism Summit, where officials described clustering as a way of grouping barangays that have similar products, be it food, handicraft or even heritage sites.

According to Architect Edgardo Castro, heritage and urban planner who spoke at the summit, clustering may help barangays in identifying assistance centers or focal persons as three or more barangays will be clustered in promoting their services and products.

"Maganda ito kasi yung mga ibang barangay sa city ay limited lang ang resources nila. So what we will do, igu-group natin sila para ang kalabasan walang mapag-iiwanan at matutulungan nila angi sa't-isa," Castro said.

The move, Castro added, will give barangays a chance for joint projects that can boost their development and that of the City of San Fernando as well.

Castro also stated that in order for these ideas and projects to be realized, every barangay must have the initiative to work and participate and make use of their abilities and resources.

Castro pointed that barangays are encouraged to participate in the activities of the city and "pitch in their ideas to the City government" which will provide the necessary guidance and promotional assistance. (Marionne I. Cayanan)
