Bacolod mayor, PFF officials in 2014 World Cup opening

BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella, a member of Fifa TV and Marketing Committee, together with Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta and PFF General-Secretary Edwin Gastanes, is currently in Brazil to witness the opening ceremony of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Rio de Janiero early morning of June 13 (Manila time).

Puentevella, in Tuesday’s text message, said that aside from the World Cup, they also attended an Asian Football Confederation meeting with AFC president Shiek Salman.

Today, Puentevella and the PFF officials will participate in the two-day Fifa Congress and then witness the opening match between host-Brazil and Croatia.

Puentevella, who will go home after the opening, said their trip to Brazil is all-expense paid by the AFC and Fifa.

Asked which team he picks to win the World Cup title, Puentevella said that he will go for Brazil, Argentina, Germany and defending champion Spain.

"These four are really good. But, I think it's either Brazil or Argentina," Puentevella said.

The month-long Fifa tournament participated by the 32 best national teams in the world will run until July 14.
