THE P14.7-million basic emergency obstetrics and newborn care (BEMONC) equipment from Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) has arrived.
Th new set of medical equipment is intended for the rural health units of Alimodian, Leon, San Miguel, Calinog, Bingawan, Balasan, Batad, Estancia and Carles, said Governor Arthur Defensor Sr.
He said this is part of Koica’s P300-million grant to improve the delivery of basic health services in remote areas or the Iloilo Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area Health System Strengthening Project.
The shipment includes 75 NSD kits, 14 adult ambubags, 12 pediatric ambubags with mask, six suction machines, 18 oxygen tanks, 18 regulators/gauges, 18 spare oxygen gauges, 75 kelly pads and 14 cervical inspection sets.
There are also nine NSV sets, five IUD sets, 45 minor surgical sets, three microscopes, 31 nebulizers, 18 pedia stethoscopes, 68 fetal dopplers, 67 baby weighing scales, 64 non-mercury pedia, 117 non-mercury body thermometers, and 27 delivery table with stirrups.
They also provided 51 bassinets, nine revolving stools, 47 droplights, 66 emergency lights, 38 recovery beds with side railings and 39 IV stands.
Defensor said a formal turning over of the equipment will be held on June 18, 2014 in Iloilo Provincial Capitol with KOICA’s resident representative Song Minhyeon.
Aside from these BEMONC materials, Iloilo GIDA Health System Strengthening Project will also expand and modernize Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian, Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan and Ricardo S. Provido Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Calinog. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno)
