Where to treat your dad

IT used to be that when special occasions come, restaurants are always the place to go for families and friends. Well, it is true and forever will be, at least in the case of Dabawenyos whose penchant for a plethora of gustatory treats will never fade in time.

Two of the most well-loved restaurants in Davao City have joined forces to make the Father's Day celebration more special, with their epicurean delights that can be found nowhere else in the city.

These are the Blue Post's Boiling Crabs and Shrimps and Antonio's Bar and Grill, both are under the AA Group of Companies.

There are about too many reasons why Dabawenyo diners should take their fathers out to any of these restaurants, be it for celebrating Father's Day or for pigging out.

Both of them offer equally delicious dishes but with totally different dining concepts.

Antonio's is a Filipino concept restaurant which boasts of an all-time favorite Pinoy fare. When they say all-time favorite, these are the original Filipino heirloom recipes that are passed on generation after generation.

The foods, of course, are best enjoyed in a cozy and ambient place, more like the dining area of which Antonio's boasts about.

There, foodies can enjoy the various native cuisines of the Philippines all under one roof. Among the dishes that are in its running list of specialties are Sugbanok, Pinaputok na manok sa dahon ng saging, Antonio's Crispy Hito, Inihaw na bangus sa dahon ng saging, Binagoongang Gulay, and Antonio's Crispy Pata.

For every delicious meal, it is best paired with a thirst-quenching fresh fruit drinks, and a good dessert to cap off a great gustatory adventure.

Antonio's Bar and Grill is located at SM City and Abreeza of the Ayala Malls.

Another go-to resto in town is the Boiling Crabs and Shrimps, which has earned popularity soon after opening its doors six months ago.

It rose to fame among the Dabawenyos for introducing a unique dining concept, being the first in the city to offer shrimps and crabs cooked in a food-grade plastic bags.

Gone are the days when eating with bare hands have to be done at home. Filipinos, as we are, we put spoon and fork aside as we can appreciate the taste of the food we eat even better.

At Boiling Crabs and Shrimps, the messier the table gets, the more fun it is. So, keep down your guards and put table etiquette aside, as these don't matter for as long as you enjoy the delicious feast whichever way you want it done.

With its overwhelming success for the past months, the restaurant is now offering a Shrimp Unlimited for only P399, so everyone can dig in all shrimps they want from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. during weekdays.

Also, the restaurant has opened another branch at the Lanang Business Park to cater to the growing foodies who are in search for a good place to dine.

In time for its opening, it is launching two new dishes, which are the Singaporean-inspired Buttered Cereal Shrimps and Garlic Pork Riblets.

The cereal gives it an extra crunch that comes with a mild and regular flavors, or with hot and spicy kick for those who have a more explorative palate.

The Garlic Pork Riblets, the dish that needs no introduction, is very tender and tasty served with garlic crisps. Both are infused with herbs that will leave you wanting for more, with its sukang sinamak on the side for dipping.

Other dishes include Fried Garlic Crab, Shrimps boiled in Boiling's Special Sauce, and Grilled Native Chicken.

Now, with shrimps, crabs, and other mouth-watering dishes ready, be sure to wash your hands and the pastic bib on because it's time for a messy yet delicious dining.

One more thing! As part of their Father's Day celebration, Blue Post Boiling Crab and Antonio's Bar and Grill have something up in their sleeves. They are sending one family to Pearl Farm Beach Resort for free as a treat for them.

To avail of the promo, dine at any of the resto with a minimum purchase of P1,300 from June 1 to June 30, 2014.
